The Engineering Department consists of 3 full time staff members: the Director of Engineering, the Building Official, and the Office Manager. This department manages and performs engineering surveys associated with municipal construction and renovation, building code compliance reviews, street layouts and additions, and design and construction of buildings associated with new business and industry moving into the City. The staff also manages all planning, zoning and variances for the City of La Junta.

Street Department

 

The Street Department consists of five full time employees who maintain, repair, and clean the approximately 53 miles of paved roadway within the city. They are also responsible for it in the unpaved alleyways. The crew repairs potholes as needed and street patching is done as weather permits.

 

Snow and Ice Removal

 

The City requires citizens to remove snow and ice from sidewalks within a reasonable time after every snowfall.

 

The City has three sand trucks and one grader. Emergency routes in the city will be covered first, then other arterial and collector streets, and residential streets as time permits.

Street Sweeping

 

One street sweeper cleans the City’s streets on a continual basis throughout the year. Streets in the downtown area are swept beginning at 4 a.m. on Tuesday and Fridays as weather permits.

Holiday Service Interruption

 

The City of La Junta is unable to provide sanitation services on the following holidays. Should your normal pick-up day fall on one of these holidays it will be rescheduled to the closest business day to the holiday. Notification of necessary rescheduling is published in the local newspaper for your convenience.

Routes

 

The sanitation routes are divided into two routes: Residential and Commercial. All customers have assigned pick-up days for service and items should be placed at the pick-up location prior to 6:30 the morning of their pick-up.

 

Special Pickups

 

Service is provided to pick-up miscellaneous items that are too big to fit into the maximum sized bags or cans. This special pick-up service can be scheduled by calling 719-384-5991 x 235. Minimum charge for this service is $16.00 or $24.00/hour. All items must be placed at regular sanitation pick-up points. City crews will not enter private property for special pick-ups.

 

Dumpster rental/sales

 

Dumpsters can be rented at $8.50/month or purchased for $660.00 each. This charge is in addtion to the sanitation service and disposal fees.

 

La Junta Industrial Park

 

A master-planned industrial park, owned by the City, is located three miles north of La Junta on Highway 109. The park is a pleasant mixture of industrial, recreational and transportation enterprises. The Industrial Park has both air and highway access. A diverse mix of businesses flourish in the 3,500 acre park which include:

The park offers a variety of recreational resources. The center of the park is a challenging nine-hole golf course. La Junta Raceway attracts racing enthusiasts from throughout the nation for regional and national races of the Sports Car Club of America. At the entrance to the park is the rodeo ground. This is the host to the annual Kids Rodeo, an immensely popular local event. Master Plan upgrades include enlarging the golf course to a full eighteen holes.
